Who says you can't play with matches? There's a time and a place for everything.

Sports are the original interactive experience, but moving the action into the online arena has proven a challenge for many athletes. Sports Matchmaker wanted to change that by developing a social networking site where athletes could meet, organize, and stay in touch.

Sports Matchmaker asked maybe.for.you. to design a website where individuals could find a tennis partner, connect with old varsity team players, or try to find a date with other sports-minded individuals. SportsMatchmaker.com would encourage user-to-user interaction and networking, activity and event planning, and drive repeat visits. As developers, one of our main challenges was trying to incorporate those elements in a framework flexible enough to withstand potentially explosive growth in both content and user base.

Because of the target audience's lifestyle, we knew aesthetics and user experience would be crucial in attracting and maintaining repeated visitors. We worked with the brand colors and standards to create a site that would appeal to the target audience of young active adults. We created an interactive experience that was visually strong and powerful, while making sure the advanced user interface elements were intuitive, thereby making activity planning fun and easy.

Sports Matchmaker also commissioned maybe.for.you. to design a mobile version of the same content, optimized for iPhone and iPod touch. This required redesigning the site to focus on user interactions that would last less than two minutes. In the end, SportsMatchmaker.com was able to incorporate the most successful aspects of social networking to accommodate word-of-mouth marketing and organic growth.
